Transforming Pediatric Oncology Across All Regions of Romania

Bucharest, October 16, 2023 – In a significant step toward improving the survival rates of children diagnosed with onco-hematological diseases in Romania, Sqilline is delighted to announce a strategic partnership with the Dăruiește Aripi Association and the Romanian Society of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (RSPOH).

This collaboration aims to transform Romanian National Pediatric Onco-Hematology Registry data into meaningful analyses to support the development of pediatric onco-hematology care in Romania.

Numbers and Finding

The primary focus of this partnership is to provide RWD analysis for an updated and comprehensive epidemiological evaluation of child cancer in Romania as well as to evaluate the progress in the overall survival of children diagnosed with oncological diseases in Romania, by successive diagnostic cohorts.

The number of patients in the registry is 5638 and it includes all the new cancer cases in the 0–19-year-old Romanian population, since 2010. The current survival analysis is conducted only for cases diagnosed from 2010 to 2017. The rationale behind this comparison lies in the necessity for at least five years to have passed since the last diagnosis to yield meaningful insights.

Sqilline’s advanced analytic software, Danny Platform, will structure the registry data and analyze the improvements in overall survival at one, three-, and five-years post-diagnosis, including disease-specific levels as well as specific survival rates by tumor type, age group and area of residence, thus enabling the identification of the specific issues that need improvement and investment.

The Technology

Danny Platform integrates massive amounts of Real-World Data (RWD) from various hospital sources (EHRs, laboratories, registries, etc.). Using Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms, Danny Platform extracts both structured and unstructured (free text) data to preprocess, normalize and ensure high data quality. This is the first and most important step to generate Real-World Evidence (RWE) in practice.
